About Us

I am Jo and I created Local Helping Hands as a direct result of my own personal experiences. I am married and have two wonderful children. I am passionate about helping others and am particularly keen to encourage independent living within our community.

My mum suffered a stroke a few years ago, which meant that my Dad had to take on the role as a carer. As a natural trait of my personality, I felt as though I needed to help both parents to make life a little easier for them. I began helping around my parent's home and garden. I enjoyed making a difference and my help allowed my parents to remain in their home with a lifetime of memories. Before this, they had reluctantly considered the upheaval of moving in to residential care. My help in their home not only provided them with a clean and tidy environment but it also meant that someone was looking out for them and their wellbeing.  It was a weight off their shoulders.

In addition to setting up this business, I also work as a health professional in the NHS and I qualified in 1997. I thoroughly enjoy the job that I do and I am dedicated to helping others.

I have 2 wonderful, self-employed ladies who also work with the Company. They are Alison and Claire and both have a fantastic work ethic, compassion, dedication and kindness. They work hard and are held in a high regard by their current clients.

As a company, we are passionate about offering the practical help that can make a difference to maintaining an independent life within Stone and the surrounding areas. It is our way of helping people stay in their home whilst providing friendly, social contact and making sure that they are safe and well.

We are a small local family run business who strive to keep our prices as competitive as possible enabling us to remain accessible to all, while maintaining a personal and friendly service of an exceptional standard.

We can provide help in three ways:

Firstly, you may choose to contact us directly to discuss your daily needs. We know how important it is to feel happy and reassured about people entering your home and helping practically. We are reliable and hardworking, friendly and caring in nature and sensible with our approach.

Secondly, we are happy to accept instructions and/ or referrals from family members. Local Helping Hands acknowledge how difficult it can be to live so far away from your elderly loved ones. You care so much about them but are not close by to help with their practical day to day needs that they may have to live happily and independently.

On the other hand, you may live close by but work long hours yourselves and have your life full with other commitments. We are here to help on a daily, weekly or monthly basis. For one-offs or for intensive, short-term bookings if respite is needed. Whatever your situation, Local Helping Hands can help.

Because we understand how difficult it can be, we will provide the designated family member with up-to-date emails on a regular basis. This will detail works carried out, relevant photographs and an update on client welfare, if requested. If you do not have regular access to the internet, we are happy to arrange telephone calls or texts so to update you of our visit.

For complete peace of mind, we are fully insured and have an up-to-date Enhanced DBS police check.
